SME Clients Receive Grant

The Bainimarama Government stayed true to its commitment of $1 million grant for micro- finance start –ups with the continuous disbursement of grants for micro and small business owners all over Fiji.

The first disbursement of $330,000 was held earlier in July this year at Albert Park in Suva. These recipients of $1000 each were 330 SME clients from the greater Suva area, Namosi and Serua.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama had in one of his speeches elaborated that “micro and small medium enterprises are powerful forces for lifting people out of poverty, making them more self- sufficient and giving them a sense of purpose and fulfillment.”

"We are convinced that from little things, big things will grow and where better than Ba to demonstrate the proof of that," he said.

Yesterday (21st October), PM Bainimarama had presented $500,000 worth of cheques to more than 500 small and micro businesses in Rakiraki. Thereafter, the Head of Government moved on to Ba where he handed out cheques to 226 ecstatic grant recipients.

Mr Bainimarama while delivering his speech said that the grants would empower ordinary citizens to start their own businesses or upgrade existing small and micro businesses.

This is just a continuation of the drive by Government to further stimulate growth in the SME sector.

The presentation of cheques in Rakiraki and Ba follows similar presentations in Navua, Suva, Savusavu, Taveuni, Sigatoka, and Nadi.

The maximum grant of $1000 for each recipient is administered by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
