"One stop shop" Website Helps Women Grow their Business

A new website that will help Pacific women start and build their businesses was launched on 12th May in Nadi by Westpac Pacific and the Australian High Commission.

Pacific Women in Business is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for information and resources on business and entrepreneurship. It includes information like: how to register a company name; how to build a financial history in order to secure finance; and advice on issues like childcare and dealing with family violence. It is designed for use on both mobile phones and computers and will format to fit various screens.

“This website will connect women to information, resources and each other to help them formalise or grow their business,” said Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Margaret Twomey. “This is something Australia is really proud to support because investing in women is not only the right thing to do; it’s the smart thing to do – and benefits families and communities.”

“Westpac staff often meets women with strong commercial ideas or who are already running small businesses, but they tell us that they have trouble finding information on how to get started or plan for sustainable business growth,” said CEO of Westpac Institutional Bank, Lyn Cobley.

“The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) identified a similar problem, so together we developed this new resource to help female-owned businesses grow.”

Pacific Women in Business resulted from Westpac’s partnership with DFAT, with the two organisations working together to boost financial inclusion in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and across the Pacific, particularly for women.

Pacific Women in Business includes information from Westpac and DFAT resources, as well as partners like the Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation, Pacific Women and UN Women.

The new website can be found on www.pacificwomeninbusiness.com.au.
