Paving the way to Success

 

The dream of becoming successful in any farming project is a common goal to many farmers with respect to empowering women in the Agriculture Sector. This means getting the right opportunities, managing plan and visualizing on the positive benefits of the project.

Farmer Rupendra Mohan and his wife Moherein Lata reside at Nakama, Wailevu in Labasa on their 9-acres agriculture land with their three children and their grandparents.

Their main commodity line is sugarcane, which covers 4-acres of land while assorted vegetables are grown along river banks where rich soil deposits of sandy loam soil accumulates. In the last three years, the average production of cane was 161tons while vegetable income has continuously increased yearly.

In June 2016, their business was boosted with the purchase of a tractor through a loan with FDB.

Their hard work was recognised in 2017 in the Northern Agriculture Show where Moherein was awarded the ‘Woman in Agriculture Award of the Year’.

On November, 2017, the farming couple applied for the NDP Grant fund assistance and they were granted $2,500.00 on December, 2017 mainly for the purchase of farm machines and tools.

The hardworking couple stressed that the secret to their success is hard work and determination to work together to achieve the best.
